Perla Guesthouse
Written by: Reper21 Association
The main stores, restaurants, the town hall, the library, the photo shop and the most important services are housed on the right bank of the Danube in two storeys houses spread out along the shore. The Perla pension has elegantly snuck in this charm filled ensemble.
On the terrace of Perla time slows down, each second seems richer. We eat a tasty fish soup while seated behind a weeping willow, watching large ships that are docked next to small boats, children jumping into the water, stacks of melons and water melons and the splash of the waves that hit the quay.
Dragos, the owner, is aware that the Danube delta is a fragile ecosystem and tries to run his business on eco friendly criteria. Water is carefully used and the facilities help the tourists not to waste it. The electrical appliances installed were acquired for their energy efficiency. The building uses solar power in order to heat the water. All the detergents that are used have a limited effect on the flora and fauna.
Behind the building we rediscover the streets full of sand and charm, the houses become smaller, the walls are made of wood and clay, some roofs are made with reed. Boats lying here and there on the side of the road seem to serve as landmarks for the cattle returning from grazing.
